Dementia Alliance Resigns from GreenConnect Dementia Respite Consortium
In April 2025, Dementia Alliance (formerly Heathcote Dementia Alliance) formally resigned from the GreenConnect Dementia Respite Consortium. Their involvement in the project has been integral, helping to shape the initiative during its early stages. Over the past two years, Dementia Alliance has played a vital role in establishing GreenConnect as a pioneering approach to dementia care, and we are incredibly grateful for their significant contribution.
As Dementia Alliance shifts focus to other priorities, we respect their decision and wish them every success in their future endeavours. Their dedication to improving dementia care will undoubtedly continue to make a meaningful impact in the community.
A New Approach to Dementia Support
GreenConnect was created to offer a completely new approach to dementia support, one that redefines what “respite” has traditionally meant. Our project is not conducted within residential aged care facilities; instead, it takes place outside, in natural settings, through a supportive group environment, where people living with dementia and their carers engage in activities and experiences together, with support from our experienced respite care coordinators. Through this innovative approach, we provide a space where participants can connect, share experiences, and feel part of a supportive community.
Operating across the Loddon-Mallee region in the Bendigo and Mildura areas, GreenConnect offers a wide range of activities designed to enhance the quality of life for both carers and people living with dementia. Whether it’s enjoying a cuppa and morning tea together in a beautiful garden or heading out on a bus trip to scenic locations, participants can engage in activities that promote connection, reduce stress, and foster a sense of community. Many GreenConnect participants have highlighted the importance of building a community of support, helping them feel less isolated as they navigate the challenges of dementia care.
A Strong Consortium of Partners
The GreenConnect project is backed by a strong and dedicated group of partners who share a commitment to redefining dementia support and enhancing the wellbeing of those affected by dementia. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our remaining consortium partners for their continued support and collaboration.
Our partners include:
Princes Court – A key partner in providing aged care and support services within the Mildura region.
Heathcote Health – A valued partner providing healthcare expertise and resources to support the project’s goals.
John Richards Centre for Rural Ageing Research, La Trobe University – Offering research-driven insights and academic expertise to help refine and improve the GreenConnect approach, ensuring its success and sustainability.
Rural Care Australia – Supporting the project with their vast experience in rural care services and community engagement.
These partners remain deeply committed to the GreenConnect vision, and we look forward to continuing to work together to offer high-quality, nature-based dementia support services across the Loddon-Mallee region.
A Commitment to Innovation and Support
GreenConnect’s approach extends beyond traditional respite care by fostering community engagement and social connections. Our model helps reduce stigma around dementia, promotes greater understanding of the challenges faced by people living with the condition, and creates meaningful interactions among participants. The collaborative, community-driven nature of our work ensures that GreenConnect will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our participants.
As we move forward, GreenConnect remains dedicated to its mission of providing a supportive and inclusive space for people living with dementia and their carers. Our innovative model of care breaks down the barriers of traditional dementia respite, ensuring that everyone involved has the opportunity to engage in activities that enhance wellbeing, reduce stress, and promote meaningful connections. We are excited to continue expanding our services across the region and invite more people to experience the benefits of this unique approach to dementia support.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dementia Alliance for their invaluable role in helping to bring this project to life. Their legacy in the GreenConnect project is one we will carry forward with great respect and appreciation.
