April’s Morning Tea at “The Cottage”
A smaller group of GreenConnect Dementia respite participants met on the Tuesday after Easter, to enjoy a morning of friendship, morning tea and to observe the passing river traffic.
Fifteen participants in the GreenConnect Dementia Respite Project, two care friends and the Mildura Respite Care Coordinator were in attendance. Two new participants were warmly welcomed to the group and were able to renew existing friendships, having had shared participation in a previous Carers support group.
The gathering featured a relaxed morning tea of sandwiches, fresh fruit platter and Easter chocolates along with the very much welcomed presence of Anthony Fotia and his “Curly Top Expresso” Piaggio barista cart with hot coffee, peppermint tea and chai lattes expertly prepared. Many enjoyed a second cuppa as they watched the timely downstream journey of the Paddle Steamer Melbourne. A majestic and historic steam driven passenger boat recently restored.
Participants shared some of their thoughts:
“It is our first time coming to this group. I am so glad we made the trip into town and will work our Carers’ schedule out a bit better next time, to stay the full duration.”
“The new venue has a warm and welcoming feel to it. I have been in hospital and it was lovely to catch up with everyone again.”
“I really enjoyed watching the PS Melbourne motor past us.”
“My dad’s Croatian friend used to have a market garden near here in the 1950’s and as a kid, I would help him pick the tomatoes and capsicum in the glass houses.”
“Good experience, great coffee, food and friendship.”
