Morning Tea at “The Cottage” in October

On a mild late-spring morning, 21 participants from the GreenConnect Dementia Respite Project gathered at The Cottage in Mildura for a relaxed morning tea. They were joined by three dedicated care friends and the Mildura Respite Care Coordinator, Kaye Matthews.

Two new participants were warmly welcomed into the group, with one current member and one volunteer care friend kindly offering transport support to two couples unable to drive—an inspiring reflection of the group’s spirit of community and care.

Care Friend Trish beautifully captured the morning’s atmosphere through a series of photographs and short videos—showcasing the laughter, reflective conversations, reconnections with old friends, and the forming of new ones.

Participants shared some of their reflections:

  • “A very enjoyable morning, and as a previous carers group facilitator, it is so lovely to reconnect with many I know from more than a decade ago.”

  • “We feel considered and welcomed into the group and are very grateful for the social connection.”

  • “This is the first time we have made it to The Cottage—it’s lovely, full of character, and it was really enjoyable watching the PS Rothbury sail downstream at 11.30am.”

  • “We enjoyed a short stroll along the river track with another couple and chatted all the way.”
